Halfway Through 2026 – Time for Your Digital Marketing Mid-Year Audit

We’re halfway through 2026.

Can you believe it?

For many business owners, June is that weird in-between month. Spring rush is over. Summer vacations are starting. And somehow, your marketing feels… off.

Traffic dips. Leads slow down. You’re not sure why.

Here’s the thing: June is the perfect time to hit pause and check under the hood.

Think of it like a car. You wouldn’t drive six months without an oil change, right? Your digital marketing is no different.

Let’s do a quick mid-year audit together. No jargon. No fluff. Just three things that matter most.

First, why does a mid-year audit even matter?

Two reasons.

First: Google changes things. Constantly. What worked in January might be outdated by June. Algorithms shift. Customer behavior shifts. If you don’t check, you fall behind.

Second: Most business owners set their marketing goals in January… and forget about them until December. That’s six months of missed opportunities.

A mid-year audit takes 30 minutes and can save you months of wasted effort.

Ready? Let’s go.

Audit #1: Your Google Business Profile (GBP)

This is your storefront on Google Maps. If it’s broken, customers can’t find you.

Here’s what to check:

Business Name

Is it exactly your legal business name?

No keywords. No “Best” or “24/7” or your city name. Just your real name.

Google’s AI detects keyword stuffing instantly. And it will suspend your profile without warning.

Address

Is it precise?

If you’re in a shared building, include your suite number. If you work from home, hide your address and set service areas instead.

Quick test: Search for your business on Google Maps. Does the pin drop exactly where you are? If not, fix it.

Services

Are you listing things you’re actually licensed to do?

If you’re a handyman, don’t list “electrical work” unless you have an electrical license. Google is cross-checking with public databases now.

Hours

Are they accurate for summer?

Many businesses change hours in June. Longer evenings. Closed holidays. Update them.

Photos

When did you last upload a photo?

If your latest photo is from 2023, you look stale. Add a current shot – team photo, new product, summer special. Fresh visuals signal to Google that you’re active.

GBP Quick Check: Log in. Look at your name, address, services, hours, and photos. Fix anything that’s not perfect. This takes 5 minutes.

Audit #2: AEO Readiness (Answer Engine Optimization)

This is new. And it’s huge.

You’ve heard of SEO – optimizing for search engines like Google.

AEO is optimizing for answer engines – the AI tools that give direct answers without clicking through to websites.

Think: voice search. Think: Google AI Overviews. Think: ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Siri.

Here’s the shift: In 2024, nearly two-thirds of Google searches ended without a click. People got their answer right on the search page. That number is even higher in 2026.

If your content isn’t answering questions directly, you’re invisible.

How to check your AEO readiness:

Step 1: What questions do your customers actually ask?

Think about the phone calls you get. The emails. The messages.

  • “What are your hours?”
  • “Do you offer [specific service]?”
  • “How much does [product] cost?”
  • “Is this available today?”

Write down the top 10 questions.

Step 2: Does your website answer them clearly?

Go to your website. Can a visitor find those answers in under 5 seconds?

Not buried in a paragraph. Not in a PDF. Not on a page that takes three clicks to reach.

Directly. Clearly. Immediately.

Step 3: Do you have FAQ schema?

This is technical, but it matters. FAQ schema tells Google, “Hey, this is a question and this is the answer.” It helps you show up in those AI-generated answers.

If this sounds confusing, don’t worry. We can help (more on that later).

AEO Quick Check: List your top 10 customer questions. Can you find clear, direct answers on your website in under 5 seconds? If not, add them.

Audit #3: Google Ads Structure

If you’re running Google Ads, 2026 looks different than 2024.

Google’s AI is doing more of the work. But that doesn’t mean you set it and forget it.

Check your campaign goals

Are you still using the same goals from January?

If you were focused on brand awareness six months ago, but now you need sales – your campaigns should reflect that.

Check your location targeting

Are you showing ads to people outside your service area?

This happens more often than you’d think. And it wastes money.

Set your location targeting to “People in or regularly in your targeted location” – not “People who show interest in” your area.

Check your search terms

Go to your Google Ads dashboard. Look at the search terms report.

Are people finding you for things you don’t actually offer? Add those as negative keywords.

Are people finding you for things you DO offer – but your ad doesn’t mention them? Update your ad copy.

Check your budget

Are you spending money on underperforming campaigns?

If a campaign hasn’t converted in 60 days, pause it. Move that budget to what’s working.

Google Ads Quick Check: Log in. Review your goals, location settings, search terms, and budget allocation. Trim what’s not working. Double down on what is.
